Fleisher/Ollman
CommercialFounded in 1952 as the Janet Fleisher Gallery, Fleisher/Ollman has spent over seven decades establishing itself as a premier institution devoted to self-taught and vernacular art. The gallery was among the first to champion now-celebrated artists like Henry Darger, Sister Gertrude Morgan, Bill Traylor, and Martín Ramírez, fundamentally reshaping how outsider art is understood and collected. Under owner John Ollman's direction since 1997, the gallery has evolved to present self-taught masterworks alongside contemporary work, deliberately blurring categorical boundaries and expanding the definition of self-taught art to include living artists from disability studios. Today it stands as a vital anchor in Philadelphia's art scene, representing significant American vernacular artists while fostering meaningful dialogue between historical and contemporary practices.
